Benefits

Why the HP EliteBook 745 G5 is a sensible buy as a refurbished AMD business laptop in the 14-inch premium class

14″, the most common business size

A 14-inch FHD display in classic 16:9, enough working area for documents and spreadsheets at a weight that stays comfortable to carry every day.

AMD Ryzen Pro 2000 + Radeon Vega

The Raven Ridge platform pairs Zen cores with integrated Vega 6/8/10 graphics. A capable base for office apps, the browser and video calls.

Bang & Olufsen audio

B&O stereo speakers with HP Audio Boost and a three-microphone array. Sound that comes through clearly on the other side of a video call.

Aluminium chassis, MIL-STD-810G

An aluminium build tested to MIL-STD-810G, a chassis designed to take the daily opening and carrying that a work machine goes through.

2× SO-DIMM up to 32 GB DDR4-2400

Two memory slots, upgradeable to 32 GB after purchase. The headroom for long use that soldered-memory rivals do not offer.

Up to 700 nits + Sure View option

FHD IPS with an optional Sure View Gen2 panel at 700 nits that hides the image from side angles, practical on a plane or in a cafe.

50 Wh battery with HP Fast Charge

HP Fast Charge returns up to 50% in about 30 minutes with the laptop off or in standby and an adapter of at least 65 W. Half a coffee break is enough to work between two meetings in different offices.

Full RJ45 + 2× USB-A 3.1

A full-size Ethernet port without an adapter, two USB-A 3.1 ports and HDMI. The HP EliteBook 745 G5 uses USB-C, but without Thunderbolt.

Hardware-level HP security

TPM 2.0, HP Sure Start Gen4 for BIOS protection, Sure Click and an optional fingerprint reader, separate from the power button. Corporate security at the base.

Sensible value as a refurbished laptop

As a used laptop that has passed a technical audit and refurbishment, the HP EliteBook 745 G5 opens up the premium EliteBook class at a more reasonable price.

Product description

HP EliteBook 745 G5: the 14-inch premium AMD EliteBook with B&O audio

In the premium 14-inch class of its generation, almost everything carried the Intel logo. The HP EliteBook 745 G5 offered a different path: a premium business machine with an aluminium chassis, Bang & Olufsen audio and MIL-STD-810G durability, but built on the AMD Raven Ridge platform with Radeon Vega graphics. For a company that wanted the feel and security of an EliteBook without paying the Intel premium, this was one of the few genuinely premium AMD options in a 14-inch format.

Behind the 745 name sits a little-known chapter of EliteBook history. At the time of this model, HP kept its premium AMD machines in a separate line, the EliteBook 700, with its own 735, 745 and 755 badges for 13.3, 14 and 15.6 inches. It sat apart from the Intel-based EliteBook xx0 models and offered the same chassis philosophy and business features, but on Ryzen Pro chips that were usually more affordable than the Intel options. The Raven Ridge generation arrived to replace the less well-received earlier AMD chips, and it was the first to bring AMD seriously back into HP's premium business segment. That separate line turned out to be a short era: with the G7 generation in 2020 HP brought the AMD models into the main 800 series (as the 835, 845 and 855), and the standalone "700" badge disappeared. The HP EliteBook 745 G5 remains from the time when a premium AMD business laptop had a name of its own.

The boldness of that May 2018 move shows in its scale. HP did not release one trial machine but a whole range at once: the 735, 745 and HP EliteBook 755 G5 — three sizes, three roles, all on Ryzen Pro, all with the full EliteBook package. The industry had treated AMD as a footnote until then; suddenly the biggest name in business laptops granted it a mirror row opposite the Intel machines on the same price list. The wager was simple: the platform is good enough now, the buyer merely has to find out. Time proved the bet right — and what exactly those first Pro chips carried shows under the hood.

The platform is AMD Ryzen Pro 2000, codenamed Raven Ridge, with Zen cores and integrated Radeon Vega 6/8/10 graphics depending on the specific chip. For everyday office work, documents, a browser with dozens of tabs and video conferencing, that is a capable base; for video editing or 3D work, though, there is no discrete graphics. The display is a 14-inch FHD panel in the classic 16:9 ratio, with an option going all the way to 700 nits and the integrated Sure View Gen2 panel that hides the image from side angles. Memory is DDR4-2400 across two SO-DIMM slots with an upgrade to 32 GB, headroom that soldered-memory rivals simply lack, and a reason for a team to keep the machine for years. A 50 Wh battery with HP Fast Charge returns 50% in about half an hour between two meetings, while the Bang & Olufsen speakers and three-microphone array (with an optional IR camera and Windows Hello) turn a video call into something that sounds professional at the other end.

Within the same line, the choice is mostly about size. The more compact HP EliteBook 735 G5 shrinks the screen to 13.3 inches for those who travel every day; the HP EliteBook 745 G5 gains working area in the 14-inch format without becoming bulky. The larger HP EliteBook 755 G5 stretches things to 15.6 inches with a higher-resolution option, more area but also more weight in the bag. From other brands, the closest AMD rival is the Lenovo ThinkPad A485, a 14-inch AMD ThinkPad with a Power Bridge system for swapping the battery on the move and the classic TrackPoint; the 745 G5 answers with Bang & Olufsen audio and an aluminium chassis instead. The honest trade-off: besides the lack of discrete graphics, the AMD platform has no Thunderbolt. There is USB-C and two USB-A 3.1 ports, but if your workflow relies on single-cable docking over Thunderbolt, this series is not the choice.

As a refurbished business laptop from ITR Bulgaria, the HP EliteBook 745 G5 offers logic that rarely applies to an ordinary used laptop: a premium EliteBook chassis and business security at a price more reasonable than a new equivalent, plus real upgrade headroom through the two SO-DIMM slots and the replaceable M.2 NVMe drive. Every machine goes through a technical audit and refurbishment, is configured to the model and comes with a real warranty. For a company standardising its fleet on AMD, or for a buyer looking for a brand-name business laptop without the Intel premium, this is a well-founded choice among refurbished HP EliteBook machines.

Who it suits

Scenarios where the HP EliteBook 745 G5 makes the most sense

Corporate fleets with an AMD policy

An IT department standardising on AMD for cost and efficiency but unwilling to drop below the EliteBook class. The chassis, HP security and SO-DIMM upgrade make mass support easier.

Premium 14″ users

A staff member who wants the EliteBook feel (aluminium, B&O speakers, a good keyboard) in the most balanced size, without paying for an Intel configuration of the same class.

Mobile managers between offices

A starting weight around 1.48 kg for the non-touch version and a full RJ45 for client offices still running wired networks. A machine for someone who rarely sits at one desk. HP Fast Charge returns up to 50% in half an hour with the laptop off or in standby and an adapter of at least 65 W.

Buyers who value durability and sound

For people whose laptop puts in a long day outside the office: the MIL-STD-810G chassis takes the daily wear, and the Bang & Olufsen audio keeps calls clear on Teams and Zoom.

Additional information

Where the HP EliteBook 745 G5 fits in the series ▼

The HP EliteBook 745 G5 belongs to the EliteBook 700, the line where HP kept its premium AMD business machines at the time, separate from the Intel-based EliteBook xx0 models. The line had three size variants: the HP EliteBook 735 G5 (13.3″, more compact), the HP EliteBook 745 G5 (14″, the balanced standard) and the HP EliteBook 755 G5 (15.6″, more screen area). All three use the same AMD platform and a shared chassis philosophy.

In HP's wider hierarchy, EliteBook is the premium business class, above the ProBook 400/600 (entry and mainstream business) and below ultra-premium flagships such as the EliteBook x360 1000 and the HP Elite Dragonfly. The HP EliteBook 745 G5 carries EliteBook-level build and security, but in an AMD form.

The direct successor is the HP EliteBook 745 G6 on the newer Picasso platform (Ryzen Pro 3000). With the G7 in 2020, HP brought the AMD models into the main 800 series as the 835, 845 and 855. The "700" badge also covers earlier AMD generations, not only the G5.

The HP EliteBook 745 G5 is not ideal if… ▼
  • You need a discrete graphics card for video editing, 3D work or CAD. The HP EliteBook 745 G5 relies on integrated Radeon Vega; for those tasks, look at the HP ZBook series.
  • Your workflow requires Thunderbolt, for example for a specific dock or an external GPU. The HP EliteBook 745 G5 has no Thunderbolt, but supports single-cable docking over USB-C with a compatible dock.
  • You treat minimum weight as the main priority. The starting weight is around 1.48 kg for the non-touch version, more than ultraportable flagships.
  • You need 2-in-1 or tablet mode. The HP EliteBook 745 G5 is a standard laptop without 360-degree hinges. If you only need a touchscreen, there are such configurations; check the specific unit.
  • You want a 15-inch screen. The HP EliteBook 755 G5 is the direct larger alternative from the same line.
  • You expect a guaranteed specific configuration (Sure View privacy panel, IR camera, 4G LTE module, a particular Ryzen chip or brightness). These are options that vary from unit to unit.
Choosing the right size ▼

13.3-inch class (HP EliteBook 735 G5): more compact and lighter. Suited to frequent travel and minimal bulk in the bag. Trade-off: less screen working area.

14-inch class (HP EliteBook 745 G5): the balanced standard. Enough screen area for working with documents, spreadsheets and video calls, at a weight that stays comfortable to carry every day.

15.6-inch class (HP EliteBook 755 G5): more screen area for multi-window work or spreadsheets, with a higher-resolution option. Heavier, suited to working mostly at a desk or carrying it rarely.

Construction: the HP EliteBook 745 G5 has an aluminium chassis in natural silver, around 17.95 mm thick, tested to MIL-STD-810G for durability. Aluminium does not flex when carried, and it keeps a feeling of solidity even after years of use.

Alternative models ▼

Within HP (the same AMD line):

HP EliteBook 735 G5, the 13.3-inch compact of the line. The same AMD platform and chassis, but a smaller screen. Wins on portability, loses working area compared with the HP EliteBook 745 G5.

HP EliteBook 755 G5, the 15.6-inch variant with a higher-resolution screen option. More area for spreadsheets and multi-window work, but heavier to carry.

HP EliteBook 745 G6, the next generation on the newer Picasso platform (Ryzen Pro 3000). A more current chip, usually at a higher refurbished price. The HP EliteBook 745 G5 remains the more affordable refurbished option on a similar chassis base.

Cross-brand alternative (14″ AMD business class):

Lenovo ThinkPad A485, an AMD Lenovo ThinkPad in the 14-inch format from the same period. It leans on a Power Bridge system for swapping the battery on the move and the classic TrackPoint. The HP EliteBook 745 G5 answers with Bang & Olufsen audio and an aluminium chassis instead, different priorities for a different user.

Note: the HP EliteBook 745 G5 is a premium AMD business laptop. Compare it with other premium models of the same size and platform, not with entry or mainstream machines from a different class.

Refurbished by ITR Bulgaria: what value do you get? ▼

The HP EliteBook 745 G5 is a model where refurbishment by ITR Bulgaria has clear logic. The machine is built for a corporate life cycle: the two SO-DIMM slots allow a memory upgrade to 32 GB, and the M.2 NVMe drive is replaceable, real upgrade headroom that extends the useful life of the refurbished device.

On top of that comes the EliteBook business base: an aluminium chassis, HP security and B&O audio. After a technical audit and refurbishment, each machine is configured to the model, prepared for continued business use, and comes with a real warranty and support from ITR Bulgaria. That is how a used laptop from this line becomes a checked, refurbished business laptop at a price more reasonable than a new equivalent.

Frequently asked questions ▼

Is the HP EliteBook 745 G5 a good choice as a used laptop?

Yes, especially for companies with an AMD policy. The HP EliteBook 745 G5 gives EliteBook-level build and security at a more reasonable price than an Intel configuration from the same period. As a refurbished laptop from the business class, with upgradeable memory and a replaceable drive, it is a practical base for long use.

What is the difference between the HP EliteBook 745 G5 and the 735 / HP EliteBook 755 G5?

Mostly the size. The HP EliteBook 735 G5 is the 13.3-inch compact, the HP EliteBook 745 G5 is the 14-inch balance, and the HP EliteBook 755 G5 is the 15.6-inch model with a higher-resolution option. All three use the same AMD Raven Ridge platform and a shared chassis philosophy.

Does the HP EliteBook 745 G5 have Thunderbolt?

No. The HP EliteBook 745 G5 has no Thunderbolt. Connectivity goes through USB-C and two USB-A 3.1 ports, plus HDMI 2.0 and a full-size RJ45. Single-cable docking is possible over USB-C with a compatible dock; if you need Thunderbolt itself, this model is not the right fit.

Is it suitable for equipping office staff?

Yes. The EliteBook series supports centralised IT management through the HP Manageability Integration Kit, and the hardware security (HP Sure Start, Sure Click, TPM 2.0) suits corporate use. The two SO-DIMM slots make it easier to standardise memory when equipping staff in volume.

What configurations does the HP EliteBook 745 G5 come in?

The model comes with an AMD Ryzen 3 Pro 2300U, Ryzen 5 Pro 2500U or Ryzen 7 Pro 2700U, up to 32 GB DDR4-2400 across two SO-DIMM slots, and an M.2 NVMe SSD up to 1 TB. Select units may have a Sure View Gen2 700-nit privacy panel, an IR camera for Windows Hello, a fingerprint reader, a 4G LTE module or a touchscreen. It is worth checking the specific unit.
