Benefits

Why the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) makes sense as a refurbished business laptop in the compact mainstream class

ThinkPad keyboard with TrackPoint

The real ThinkPad keyboard, with 1.5 mm key travel and the red TrackPoint in the middle. For people who type all day, navigation stays between the keys and the hand never leaves the home row.

Upgradeable M.2 NVMe SSD

The M.2 NVMe SSD (up to 1 TB) is replaceable, so storage can be upgraded later. Memory, by contrast, is soldered DDR4 (4, 8 or 16 GB) and is chosen at purchase; the 8 and 16 GB versions run in dual-channel mode.

Full ThinkShield in a mainstream class

dTPM 2.0, a physical ThinkShutter camera cover, plus optional match-on-chip fingerprint reader and IR camera for Windows Hello. The same corporate security as the pricier ThinkPads, not a stripped-down version.

46 Wh with Rapid Charge

Lenovo Rapid Charge returns about 80% in an hour with a 65W USB-C charger. Enough to move from one meeting to the next without hunting for an outlet under the desk.

MIL-STD-810G durability

The model is tested to MIL-STD-810G for vibration, shock, temperature and humidity; Lenovo cites 12 military-grade requirements. Built for everyday handling, not just a clean desk.

Comet Lake-U with vPro option

Intel Core 10th Gen (Comet Lake-U), with options up to a quad-core Core i7 and vPro for centralized fleet management. Enough for office apps, a browser full of tabs, and video calls.

USB-C 3.1 docking + full ports

Two USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 ports (DisplayPort and Power Delivery) for docking and an external monitor, plus 2× USB-A 3.2 and HDMI. The included Ethernet adapter gives a full-size RJ45 for wired networks where Wi-Fi falls short.

13.3″ FHD IPS up to 300 nits

FHD IPS panel with an anti-glare coating and brightness up to 300 nits on the higher configurations. The matte screen does not wash out next to a window and does not hold reflections.

Commercial Vantage for IT

Commercial Vantage handles drivers, BIOS updates and system settings from one place, which helps companies that equip staff in volume and rely on standardization.

Value as a refurbished laptop

As a used business laptop from the ThinkPad L series, the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) gives you the ThinkPad keyboard, ThinkShield and a replaceable SSD at a sensible price, checked and refurbished by ITR Bulgaria.

Product description

Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel): the first L13, a compact mainstream ThinkPad

Lenovo's ThinkPad portfolio has a ladder that is not obvious at first glance, but explains almost every choice: the E series is entry level, the L series is mainstream, the T series is the premium tier for daily corporate work, and the X1 sits at the top as the flagship. For a long time the L series meant the Lenovo ThinkPad L380 and L390 in the 13.3-inch size, and the L480 through L590 in the larger sizes. In 2019–2020 Lenovo reorganized that ladder into L13, L14 and L15, one number per size, just like the T and X series. The L13 was introduced in August 2019, and the L14 and L15 in February 2020. The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) is the first generation in the compact mainstream tier under that new naming.

To understand what the L series actually offers, it helps to know where it comes from. Lenovo created it as the successor to the earlier ThinkPad R series, the line that gives a full ThinkPad to companies, government agencies and universities without the price of the T series. The idea has barely changed since: the same business logic as the pricier ThinkPads, including security, docking, an optional smart card reader and good serviceability, just wrapped in a thicker, more affordable chassis. The compact 13.3-inch line has its own thread in this history. It started as the ThinkPad 13 aimed at students, then the Lenovo ThinkPad L380 added an aluminium lid, the Lenovo ThinkPad L390 modernized it, and the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) carried it into the new naming. So behind a modest-looking model sits a line with more than a decade of experience in what an IT department wants from a work machine.

The very appearance of a thirteen-inch L was quiet news in the world of affordable machines. Until then, the compact format in the business class carried a premium label — the smaller body, paradoxically, cost more. The L13 broke that rule: reviewers called it “the cost-conscious little business machine” — the full corporate kit of protections and standards, shrunk to bag size, at a more affordable price. For an accounting practice or a freelance lawyer traveling with half an office in a backpack, that combination long had no name. Now it does.

Under the lid is the Intel Core 10th Gen platform (Comet Lake-U), with options up to a quad-core Core i7 and vPro for fleet management, plus integrated Intel UHD graphics for office apps, the browser and video calls. The memory is soldered DDR4-2666, up to 16 GB (dual-channel with 8 or 16 GB), and is chosen at purchase; what stays serviceable is the M.2 NVMe SSD (up to 1 TB), which is replaceable. The ThinkPad keyboard, with 1.5 mm travel and the red TrackPoint, is the reason people keep coming back to the brand; navigation stays in the middle of the keyboard and the hand never leaves the keys. A 46 Wh battery with Lenovo Rapid Charge returns about 80% in an hour with a 65W USB-C charger. Two USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 (DisplayPort and Power Delivery), two USB-A 3.2, HDMI and a full-size RJ45 via the included Ethernet adapter cover USB-C docking and an older wired network in a client office.

It is worth separating the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) from its neighbours by size. The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 1 (Intel) belongs to a different tier: a premium compact from around 1.21 kg, with an optional carbon fiber chassis, aimed at people who put weight and feel above price. The L13 Gen 1 plays a mainstream role at around 1.38 kg, with an aluminium lid over a reinforced base and a priority on value and serviceability. Among direct rivals from another brand stands the Dell Latitude 5310, also a 13.3-inch mainstream machine, but with a magnesium-alloy chassis and a start weight of around 1.22 kg. The choice between the two comes down to priorities: the Latitude wins on weight and material, while the L13 answers with the ThinkPad keyboard and the broader L-series serviceability.

The difference from its own successor is just as clear. The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 2 (Intel) moved to the 11th Gen Tiger Lake platform and introduced the stronger integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics; the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) stays on Comet Lake with integrated UHD graphics. For heavier visual work that matters, but for office apps, documents and video calls the gap is smaller, and the Gen 1 is often the more sensible refurbished buy. An honest trade-off: the L13 Gen 1 is not an ultraportable. It is heavier than premium compacts like the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 1 (Intel), the webcam is 720p (with a ThinkShutter cover), and the display is a 13.3-inch FHD IPS up to 300 nits, not a high-resolution panel. Anyone who needs minimum weight will be happier with the X13; anyone who wants the latest platform should look at the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 2.

As a refurbished business laptop from ITR Bulgaria, the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) makes sense for two concrete reasons. First, the replaceable M.2 SSD and the accessible, standardized L-series internals make the technical audit and servicing easy and free of surprises (the memory itself is soldered). Second, ThinkPad is a brand that corporate IT departments have recognized and supported for decades, which makes standardized staff equipment simpler. That is how a used business laptop from the L series becomes a checked and refurbished business laptop with a real warranty: a more sensible buy than a new budget model, more affordable than a premium compact ThinkPad, and fully enough for the everyday office work the L series was built for.

Who it is for

Scenarios where the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) makes the most sense

A buyer who wants a ThinkPad on a mainstream budget

Someone who has typed on a ThinkPad and does not want to step down from that keyboard, but the T series is out of budget. The L13 Gen 1 gives the same typing feel and the same TrackPoint at a more affordable price.

A corporate fleet that requires ThinkShield

An IT department equipping staff in volume that insists on full corporate security. dTPM 2.0, ThinkShutter and Commercial Vantage allow standardized configuration and support across a whole fleet of machines.

People who type all day

A journalist editing copy late into the evening, or a lawyer drafting long documents. The ThinkPad keyboard, with its deep travel and TrackPoint, makes hours of typing noticeably more comfortable than the shallow keyboards in this class.

A mobile consultant who values the keyboard

A consultant carrying the machine between client offices. The compact 13.3-inch body and Rapid Charge help on the move, while a USB-C dock restores a full workstation the moment they reach a desk.

Additional information

Where the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 fits in the series ▼

The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) belongs to the ThinkPad L series, Lenovo's mainstream business line, positioned between the entry E series and the premium T series. The L series provides full ThinkShield and the real ThinkPad keyboard, but in a more affordable chassis than the T. That makes it a logical choice for companies that want the ThinkPad standard without the premium price.

The full ThinkPad ladder runs as follows: ThinkPad E (entry business) below L; ThinkPad L (mainstream), where this model sits; ThinkPad T and the compact X models (Lenovo ThinkPad X13) for premium daily work; ThinkPad X1 (Carbon, Yoga, Nano) as the ultra-premium flagship; and ThinkPad P as a separate workstation line.

The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) is the first generation in the compact 13.3-inch tier under the new naming, the successor to the Lenovo ThinkPad L380/L390. Its larger siblings from the same generation are the 14-inch Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 1 (Intel) and the 15.6-inch Lenovo ThinkPad L15 Gen 1 (Intel). The Gen 1 uses the Intel Comet Lake platform (10th Gen); the successor Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 2 (Intel) moves to Tiger Lake (11th Gen).

The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 is not ideal if… ▼
  • Minimum weight is the priority. The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) weighs around 1.38 kg, noticeably heavier than the premium compact Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 1 (Intel) (from about 1.21 kg) or the Dell Latitude 5310 (~1.22 kg). For the lightest 13.3-inch ThinkPad, look at the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 1 (Intel).
  • You want a newer platform than the Gen 1's. The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) runs Intel 10th Gen (Comet Lake) with integrated UHD graphics. For Tiger Lake and the stronger Iris Xe graphics, look at the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 2 (Intel) with a Core i5 or i7 and dual-channel memory.
  • You need 2-in-1 or tablet mode. The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) is a clamshell laptop without 360-degree hinges, although touch-screen configurations exist. The convertible version from the same generation is the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 1 (Intel).
  • You want a larger screen. For the 14-inch class look at the Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 1 (Intel), and for the 15.6-inch class the Lenovo ThinkPad L15 Gen 1 (Intel) from the same generation.
  • You need a discrete graphics card for video editing or 3D work. The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) relies on integrated Intel UHD graphics and does not offer a dGPU.
  • You need a guaranteed specific configuration (a particular CPU, RAM amount, SSD, IR camera, fingerprint reader or FHD panel). Configurations vary, so it is worth checking the specific unit.
Choosing the right size and form factor ▼

13.3-inch class (Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel)): the most compact in the L series for this generation. Easy to carry at around 1.38 kg, with enough screen area for documents, email and video calls.

14-inch class (Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 1 (Intel)): a little more screen and working space, with the same series logic. A balanced choice for work mostly at a desk with occasional carrying.

15.6-inch class (Lenovo ThinkPad L15 Gen 1 (Intel)): the largest working area in the L series for this generation, for spreadsheet work or a multi-window setup. Heavier, and better suited to mostly stationary work.

Form factor: the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) is a clamshell laptop without 360-degree hinges. For touch and tablet mode, look at the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 1 (Intel) (the convertible version from the same generation).

Premium compact alternative: the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 1 (Intel) is a higher tier, lighter (from about 1.21 kg) with an optional carbon fiber chassis, but usually at a higher price as a refurbished laptop.

Alternative models ▼

A newer platform (same series):

Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 2 (Intel) is the direct successor on the Intel Tiger Lake platform (11th Gen) with the stronger integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics. Trade-off: usually a higher price as a refurbished laptop. The Gen 1 is often the more sensible buy for office work without heavy visual tasks.

A higher tier (premium compact):

Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 1 (Intel) is a premium compact Lenovo ThinkPad from around 1.21 kg with an optional carbon fiber chassis. Lighter and with a better feel, but usually pricier, and without the Lenovo ThinkPad L series' mainstream positioning.

A different form factor (convertible):

Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 1 (Intel) uses the same Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) base, but with 360-degree hinges, a touch screen and pen support. A different form factor for a user who wants tablet mode, with the trade-off of slightly more weight.

A cross-brand alternative (13.3″, mainstream):

Dell Latitude 5310 is a directly competing equivalent model from Dell's mainstream Latitude 5000 series. Lighter (~1.22 kg) with a magnesium chassis. Trade-off: a different ecosystem and no Lenovo ThinkPad keyboard with TrackPoint. A logical choice for Dell-oriented IT departments.

Note: do not compare the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) with the Lenovo ThinkPad E series; that is a lower entry class with more limited ThinkShield and a different target group.

Refurbished by ITR Bulgaria: what value do you get? ▼

The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) is a model where refurbishment by ITR Bulgaria has clear logic. The replaceable M.2 NVMe SSD and the accessible internals mean the technical audit, cleaning and any storage upgrade are easy and free of surprises; the memory is soldered, but the L series chassis is otherwise designed for servicing.

On top of that comes the ThinkPad reputation. When a refurbished used laptop is a Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel), it fits naturally into existing corporate processes and standards that IT departments have known for decades. After refurbishment, the model is prepared for repeat business use with a real warranty and support from ITR Bulgaria: the difference between a random used laptop and a refurbished business laptop with a professional origin.

Frequently asked questions ▼

Is the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 a good choice as a used laptop?

Yes, and for a concrete reason. The L series is built for a long corporate life with a focus on serviceability; a replaceable SSD and accessible internals make refurbishment easy. As a refurbished laptop from the mainstream business class, the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) gives you the ThinkPad keyboard, full ThinkShield and a MIL-STD-810G chassis at a sensible price.

What is the difference between the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) and the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 2 (Intel)?

The main difference is the platform. The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) uses Intel 10th Gen (Comet Lake) with integrated UHD graphics. The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 2 (Intel) moves to 11th Gen (Tiger Lake) with the stronger Intel Iris Xe graphics. For heavy visual tasks the Gen 2 leads; for standard office work, documents and video calls the gap is smaller, and the Gen 1 is usually more affordable as a refurbished buy.

Why is the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) called "the first Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel)"?

Before the L13 arrived in 2019, the compact 13.3-inch ThinkPad in the L series was called the Lenovo ThinkPad L380, and then the Lenovo ThinkPad L390. In 2019–2020 Lenovo moved to the naming Lenovo ThinkPad L13, Lenovo ThinkPad L14 and Lenovo ThinkPad L15, one number per size, following the logic of the T and X series. The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) is the first generation under that new naming, the direct successor to the Lenovo ThinkPad L390.

What configurations does the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 (Intel) come in?

The model comes in a wide range: Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 from the 10th generation (with up to four cores and vPro options), soldered DDR4-2666 RAM up to 16 GB, and an M.2 NVMe SSD up to 1 TB. On some units the following may be present: an IR camera for Windows Hello, a fingerprint reader, an FHD IPS panel up to 300 nits, and a smart card reader. The webcam is 720p with a ThinkShutter cover. It is worth checking the specific unit.
